About the organisation

The Associació de Celíacs de Catalunya is the dean of Spain’s celiac movement: it was established in 1977 and was the first organisation in the country created to defend the interests of celiac people. In 1982 it was declared a Public Utility Entity, a recognition of decades of social work.

It serves Catalonia and Menorca, a territory where hundreds of thousands of people are estimated to live with gluten-related disorders. It brings together more than 7,000 member families and maintains intense advisory, training and awareness activity, including programmes for young people (“Celíacs Joves”), its “Celíac@s” magazine and a members’ app.

To make eating out safe, it accredits and trains hospitality establishments in handling gluten-free food, with a directory of more than 300 accredited venues. It rounds out its work with a gluten-free food guide of over 18,000 products, one of the most comprehensive in the country.
